New York City K-12 Schools

As part of teams for more than a dozen City of New York School construction projects, AD’s team has provided acoustic services to achieve stronger learning environments for City education facilities.  Scope of services included internal and external noise control, room acoustics, sound isolation and separations and code compliance for environmental noise control.  Project scopes typically included auditoriums, gymnasiums, classrooms and other learning and public gathering spaces.  Services required sensitivity to budget and compliance with City contracting protocols.  Notable projects included:

  • PS 128, Queens – new 93,000 SF design/build $49 M
  • PS / IS 277,  Queens – new 95,000 SF building $47 M
  • Gateway High School, Queens – new 126,750 SF building with 300-seat auditorium
  • PS 292, Bronx – new 53,000 SF LEED building
  • PS 340, Manhattan – renovation / re-purposing 6 floors of former hospital into new primary school

Learning environments are enhanced when student focus is not disrupted by noise from adjacent spaces and hallway activity.  Low background noise from mechanical and electrical equipment  offer stronger settings for student engagement.
