Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries

Adaptive reuse of an existing 4,000 SF late-19th century masonry structure accommodates a robust learning center for natural science targeted to protection of the world’s rivers and estuaries.  The project transformed this abandoned industrial building from the former Denning’s Point Brick Works.

AD provided acoustic expertise to enable flexible-use spaces to support seminars, workshops, exhibits, public forums and cultural and social events.  Services entailed close interface with technology consultants to align natural acoustics with video-conferencing / distance-learning and recording functionality.  The infusion of old and new enables the Center to serve as a living laboratory for testing and implementing transformational sustainability strategies and is a LEED Platinum certified building.
