U.C. Berkeley – C.V. Starr East Asian Library

New $30 M, 69,000 SF building is a repository for rare books, character language texts and offers a sanctuary for study.  Acoustic expertise addressed environments for study / collection areas, reading rooms, conference and classroom facilities.  Critical acoustical concerns included maintaining a quiet noise environment with limited introduction of sound absorptive material and achieving excellent speech intelligibly in conference and classroom facilities.  Close collaboration with MEP engineers enabled design for quiet air distribution systems without the use of internal duct lining, per University building standards.
